President's Address

Update: October 22, 2025

It is my great honor to serve as the fifth President of the Japan Academy of Nephrology Nursing (JANN) since November 2023.First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the directors, staff, and members who have supported JANN thus far.

My involvement with Nephrology Nursing began during my time working in the Dialysis Department at Toranomon Hospital. Guided by the profound depth of this field, I subsequently conducted research on Nephrology Nursing for both my master's thesis and doctoral dissertation, and have continued to be engaged in this work to this day.
Moving forward, I aim to work with our approximately 3,800 members to advance Nephrology Nursing. To this end, we have established four operational goals for JANN this term. These were set collaboratively with all JANN members, drawing from activities already underway in our various committees and referencing the goals of domestic and international academic societies.

<Operational Goal 1: Strengthening Public Information Outreach and Collaboration with Related Organizations>
We believe that preventing deterioration and improving the quality of life (QOL) for patients with CKD is the foremost role of our society, which is responsible for Nephrology Nursing. Therefore, for this goal, we aim to provide better Nephrology Nursing to the public through public awareness campaigns about Nephrology Nursing, responses to disasters and infection prevention, and close collaboration with related domestic and international societies.

<Operational Goal 2: Building and Advancing Knowledge and Practice in Nephrology Nursing>
Despite Nephrology Nursing being practiced clinically, only a fraction of its outcomes are published as research papers. Therefore, we will promote the creation of the latest evidence-based information and research findings to support the advancement of expertise in Nephrology Nursing.

<Operational Goal 3: Developing and Utilizing Personnel Responsible for Nephrology Nursing>
Specialists in Nephrology Nursing include Certified Chronic Kidney Disease Leading Nurses (CKDLN), Certified Nurses in Nephrology Nursing (CN), and Certified Nurse Specialists in Chronic Disease Nursing (CNS). JANN aims to enhance the roles and activities of these certified professionals. We will achieve this through various training programs, seminars, and the awarding of nursing research grants, pooling the collective wisdom and strength of the entire society for human resource development.

<Operational Goal 4: Restructuring Organizational Infrastructure and Systems>
JANN currently has 14 committees, and it is desirable for each committee to operate without excess or deficiency. Therefore, we aim to pursue efficient and flexible operations, review our activities, improve member convenience, and contribute to the overall development of the society.

While I have outlined these four goals, I cannot achieve anything alone by merely setting ambitious targets. Substantial society management is only possible with the cooperation of our members and stakeholders. I sincerely hope you will channel your passionate commitment to Nephrology Nursing into this society.
During my two-year term, I intend to dedicate myself wholeheartedly to JANN. I humbly request your continued cooperation and guidance.
