What is a Chronic Kidney Disease Leading Nurse (CKDLN)?

The Japan Academy of Nephrology Nursing introduced the “Chronic Kidney Disease Leading Nurse (formerly Dialysis Therapy Nurse Practitioner)” certification program in 2003, jointly certified by five academic societies.
Currently, it is jointly certified by six academic societies (The Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy, Japanese Society of Nephrology, The Japan Society for Transplantation, The Japanese Urological Association, Japanese Society for Peritoneal Dialysis), with more than 1,000 CKDLNs active nationwide.

The Role of Chronic Kidney Disease Leading Nurse

Chronic Kidney Disease Leading Nurse (CKDLN)

  1. Provide support to patients with chronic kidney disease and their families in daily life through specialized knowledge and skills.
  2. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to support patients with chronic kidney disease and their family members.
  3. Engage in educational activities for nurses to enhance the quality of chronic kidney disease nursing care.
  4. Participate in professional and social activities, such as building networks among CKDLNs, to improve the quality of chronic kidney disease nursing care.
